Block Printing with Lino

Tuesday 28th April  | 7pm - 9.30pm

During this workshop, Print Designer Karishma Kusurkar will showing you how to design your own artwork, cut and make a print-block and then use this to stamp a selection of fabrics and papers or customise anything you want to bring in! You will be able to frame individual prints or stamp repeats for an all-over design onto furnishings and fashion.

Karishma is currently working on a range of Printed Accessories called “One Square.” She works using both digital and traditional print methods and places emphasis on detail in design. Her work has sold to companies including Armani Exchange and she has recently completed a bespoke project for actor Kristian Nairn.

Applique and Hand Embroidery 101: A workshop for beginners | £30

Tuesday 19th May  | 7pm - 9.30pm  

This Maven Session is led by Cara Caughey and will start with a short talk on the history of hand embroidery as decoration leading into a showcase of inspiring contemporary embroidery.

The workshop will be in basic hand embroidery and applique techniques. You will have the opportunity to draw up your own design or use one of Cara's pre-prepared animal themed templates. We will create a decorative piece of craft where a 5" embroidery hoop acts as the frame and will be able to be hung. Cara will teach everything from preparation of embroidery threads and applique materials straight through to how to finish off the piece professionally at the back.

You will be able to take home your completed project together with a new skill in hand embroidery!

Introduction to Japanese Shibori and Indigo – 2 part session 

Tuesday 9th June | Session 1 | 6.30 - 9.30pm

Attendees will listen to a brief talk about Shibori dyeing, explaining the history of Shibori in Japan with images to explain the different effects possible. You will then be given two Tenugi, which is a Japanese hand towel and shown two shibori technique. This is followed by you folding and stitching your piece in preparation for dyeing.

Tuesday 16th June | Session 2 | 6.30 - 9.30pm

Attendees will be shown how to make a mini indigo vat. You will learn how to use it correctly and about the oxidising process. To finish you will prepare your tenugi and then dye the piece to the desired indigo shade.
