Lockdown: At Home - Jayne

What’s your name and what do you do?

I’m Jayne. I’m a Project Manager who is blissfully enjoying maternity leave which is ending on Monday. Oh the fear...

Who lives in your home?

The big chief JP, our 10 month old, John-Henry and myself! We also have furry friends, 3 dogs and a partially sighted cat (who is of little help with the mice in winter).

How would you describe your home?

Our home is a quirky former rectory, built in the 18th century. It’s hard to find a straight wall or level floor, but the character and charm it has is amazing. We have so much wildlife here from deers to rabbits, I sometimes feel like a ginger Snow White. It’s lovely!

What have you enjoyed about your home during the lockdown?

We have been renovating our home for the past 3 years. As lockdown began, the worked stopped. Which meant no diggers starting at 7 in the morning and no one around the house. In a strange way this has been a blessing for us. That time to actually wake up each day, open a window and hear nothing but birds. Taking the time to stop and enjoy all that we have around us in lovely peace and quiet.

Is there a DIY job you've got round to that you're proud of?There’s been no one job! However, I am the biggest organiser, I thrive on it. So I’ve been lucky to have some extra time to fully organise the already organised. Perfect!

If you could change anything about your home, what would it be?

It’s inability to keep heat inside the stone walls in the middle of winter. Oh it’s a guzzler.

What’s the most recent thing you’ve bought for your home?

A silicone washing up liquid dispenser. Random, but lovely on the eyes instead of a big bottle sitting on the worktop.

What’s been your go-to meal in the last few weeks?

We haven’t really had a go-to meal. However, we have been baking banana and wheaten bread until they have been coming out of our ears.

Is there anything you’ve started to do during lockdown that you’d like to continue as ‘normality’ resumes?

Playing the piano. Our son loves to hear piano music, one of the great aids to getting him to sleep. I’d love to get to a stage where I could play properly again and then one day he may also want to learn.
